The basic set-up is similar to most match three games: you have a grid full of colored tiles and you need to match up three or more of the same color to score points. But the major difference with Turba is that the tiles don’t clear themselves automatically when you select three or more of them. Instead, you decide when to pull the trigger. This allows you to set-up massive chains as you can wait until more tiles come into play before you clear them out. You can also create chains for each of the four colors and clear them all away at once, resulting in incredibly high-scoring combos.
If you make a mistake and try and clear blocks that can’t be cleared, they will turn into unusable black tiles. There are also bomb-like tiles that will explode if you don’t clear them away in time. These have a similar effect, clogging up the play field with black tiles.
In Freeplay Mode, the bottom row of blocks will clear after a set number of beats, the beats are determined by diffifulty selected. The game board will always refill when blocks are cleared. And blocks in this mode are randomly generated and thus are different each time for a specific song.
In Ascend mode, blocks will spawn into the board with each beat, 1, 2, or 3 at a time depending on difficulty. If the blocks fill the entire screen, the game will be failed. Two columns can be switched at any point during this game via the Tab key or Scroll Wheel. The blocks in this mode are based off the song data, so each specific song will play out the same way each time.
In Descend mode, blocks will slowly creep down from the top of the screen, one row at a time. The rows of blocks move according to the beat. You can “scroll” through the blocks in any given column with the scroll wheel.
Ten random blocks will become “wild cards”, these wildcards can be turned into any of the 4 normal blocks.(Red, Green, Blue, Yellow). Dragging into a wildcard will turn it into which ever color was previously selected.
Once activated the Roulette wheel will start to spin, and when the wheel stops whichever color is selected will be taken off the current board.
When activated you will see a lightning cursor, clicking on any block instantly destroys it. Precission works great for making huge combos with this ability.
This power will instanly find any available combo on the board and clear it for you. This power is great for all players especially if ascend mode seems too hard for you.
Row Swap (Unique to Freeplay)
Upon activation, the player has 10 seconds to swap as many rows as they choose. After the 10 seconds is up, the player will be granted 2 row swaps that can be used at any time.
Block Bank (Unique to Ascend)
When activated, whichever blocks would normally spawn on the board are taken and put into a block bank. This occurs for 5 seconds. At any point the player may take the topmost block from the bank and place it anywhere on the board. The block can replace another block, or it can be dropped on top of the board.
Lazer (Unique to Descend)
Once activated, A laser will spawn at the bottom of the screen and it will follow the players mouse. Pressing the tab key allows the player to fire the laser at the blocks, any block hit will be destroyed.
